Isothermal crystallization of gamma irradiated LDPE in the presence of oxygen

This work is focused on the study ofthe effect of oxygen on the isothermal crystallization process of gammairradiated low density polyethylene (LDPE). The theoretical melting pointincreased with radiation dose. The induction time also increased with the doseindicating a retarding effect. On other hand, at the same dose, this parameter decreasedwith the augment in the oxygen content. Classical Avrami equation was used toanalyze the crystallization kinetic of these materials. n values suggested that both, the dose and the oxygen content, did notaffect the mechanism of crystals growth. An Arrhenius type equation was usedfor the rate constant (k). Used modelscorrectly reproduced the experimental data. TTT diagrams of studied materialswere constructed and also reflected the effects of the doses and the oxygencontent.
