Resumen:
Limonium brasiliense (Boiss.) Kuntze (Plumbaginaceae) is a medicinal plant, known by its common name ?Guaycuru?, that grows mostly in saline soils, distributed in Argentina, Uruguay and Brasil. Infusion from the roots is popularly used in the treatment of hemorrhage, menstrual disorders, rheumatism and it is believed to have cardioprotective properties. As a part of our continuing search for biologically active compounds, we have attempted to isolate and characterize the active principle responsible for anti-inflammatory activity of aqueous and methanolic extracts from roots of Limonium brasiliense, growing wild in Bahía Blanca, Argentina . These results demonstrate that EGCG dimer and myricitrin exhibit potent anti-inflammatory activity, suggesting that these compounds may be responsible for the anti- inflammatory effects previously observed for the crude extract of this plant. Also, it may support the traditional use of L. brasiliense for the treatment of pulmonary diseases.
