Resumen:
An as-cast Co-Cr-Mo alloy ingot is remelted in a rotating electrode plasma process equipment. The intense acceleration of melt generates droplets of 20-200 mm diameter. During the process the metal is simultaneously atomised and sputtered in successive layers over a metallic substrate. Finally a more refined microstructure than in the as-cast ingot is obtained. This is composed by a thin carbide distribution in a cobalt matrix.
The process generates a coating with a 3-D porosity with rough surfaces which could be instrumented in the production of cementless metal implants.
