Resumen:
This is the preface of the 2019 meeting of the International Federation of Placenta Associations (IFPA 2019), which was held at the Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) at the modern Puerto Madero neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Organized by the Placental Association of the Americas (PAA), this was the second time that an IFPA meeting was held in South America. IFPA 2019 was held together with the VIII Meeting of the Latin American Society of Placenta and Feto-Maternal Interaction (VIII SLIMP), providing a wonderful opportunity for Latin American Researches to join an IFPA meeting. At IFPA 2019, there were 410 attending delegates from 31 different countries, including 185 New Investigators. Of the attending delegates, 63% belong to PAA, including 49% attendants from Latin America. The theme of the conference was ?Placenta: the origin of pregnancy health and disease?, a comprehensive theme that illustrates the central role of the placenta in the mother, fetus and offspring´s health. Understanding how the placental fulfill its central task in supporting a healthy development throughout generations requires basic, translation and clinical science in the field. Thus, many different aspects within the placentology field were addressed at IFPA 2019. Some of the relevant themes addressed at this meeting can be found in the volume that include this preface.
