America´s Global Hegemonyand Implications for Latin America

In the framework of US - Latin American relations the issue of Americanhegemony is not new. However the idea of unipolarity which appearedafter the first Gulf War, and the militarization of US Foreign Policy postSeptember 11 ?which increased the gap between US military developmentand that of the rest of the world- set up again the debate on globalhegemony and its implications for the rest of the world, in general, and forLatin America, in particular. Taking into consideration the above mentioned ideas, this paper aims atdealing with the following issues:a- the importance of US global hegemony for Latin American , that is tosay up to what extent is relevant for Latin America to discuss US globalhegemony, rather than to seek how US manages this unipolarityb- The problems arising when thinking Latin America as an homogeneousarea and when considering that US has a unique policy for the region.c- The present relation between US and Latin America.
