A recent research shows that many integration theories assumptions (such as the pluralist society, the neutrality of the state and the rational choice) cannot be taken as given when analysing the behaviour of different actors in this South American country, at least, during the first years of the integration process. Therefore, this paper will resume the main conclusions of that research and will take it as a point of departure to identify the elements that can contribute to the creation of a broader analytical framework that may help us to study regional governance in different integration processes of the world.
