Resumen:
The use of audiovisual content to teach introductory courses of International Relations (IR) is a well-established practice. However, less articles have explored the use of TV shows in teaching an introductory IR course. This is surprising, considering that TV shows are becoming the main way of consuming popular content, and that there is an increasing number of them in over-the-top platforms, like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and similar ones, examining IR affairs. Besides, the few studies exploring the use of TV shows as pedagogical tools emanates from the Anglosphere (Boaz 2020). Apart from some exceptions (Gibert 2016), few authors have critically examined up to what extent global popular culture content emanating from Western countries may be useful in teaching IR beyond its targeted audiences. Considering these gaps, this article explores if TV shows are useful as a pedagogical instrument in an introductory IR course. Furthermore, it investigates the way in which students in the Global South engage with content produced for Global North audiences.
