Resumen:
In this talk I will review some basic concepts aboutnetworks and I will present some recent developments. In the fist part I will present a simple model for highlyheterogeneous networks. We considered the case of (approximately)scale free networks built using a preferential attachmentalgorithm. We studied its topological characteristics and diseasedynamics in such networks. A simple network model is introduced anwe show that it closely captures the disease dynamics observed inthe complex network. The implications of this results in theunderstanding of disease dynamics and control in highlyheterogeneous populations is discussed. In the second part we present a network approach to vector bornediseases. I will discuss the complexities involved and I willpresent our proposed model. Application to the disease dynamics ofdengue in non-epidemic settings are presented and discussed.
