Effects in a beta-Cu-Zn-Al alloy irradiated with Cu+ ions at different temperatures.

A β-Cu-Zn-Al single crystals with surface normal close to  β were irradiated with 300 keV Cu+ ions. In this work, the effect of temperature at high irradiation doses is investigated following the evolution of the cavity distribution and compact phase precipitation. The structural and microstructural variations were studied with various transmission electron microscopy techniques. Conventional microscopy and the Zuomethod on CBED patterns are performed in order to determine the three dimensional morphology of the cavities. The compact phase formation at different dose-temperature conditions was analyzed. Diffraction and microdiffraction patterns of samples irradiated under different conditions show a 2H or fcc structure. The presence of these compact phases is associated with different states of disorder produced by the irradiation. The order-disorder imbalance produced by high dose irradiation at different temperatures isanalyzed here in terms of the structural and microstructural changes found for each dose and temperaturecondition.
