Of the many topics within the contemporary Latin America gender and sexual politics agenda, we will examine three areas: gender and sexuality based violence; sex work and anti-trafficking policy trends; and abortion rights.We have made these choices because these topics are privileged sites to charter the paradoxes and conceptual challenges of Latin American gender and sexual politics.32 Each of these topics allows for mapping the role of key actors in play, such as political parties, conservative religious forces, social movements, governmental bureaucracies and leadership, academia and market forces as well as transnational trends.
