Resumen:
Obesity (OB) is associated with a low grade inflammation located in visceral adipose tissue (VAT). Chronic inflammatory conditions induce the release of ATP from intracellular stores, which is catabolized into Adenosine (ADO) by ectonucleotidases (CD39/CD73). In the extracellular space, these nucleotides act through P2X7 and A2A receptors. Purinergic signaling is involved in vascular or lung chronic inflammation. However, no studies in humans have examined the role of this signaling pathway in the modulation of VAT inflammation in Obesity. Aims: 1-To demostrate the release of pro-inflammatory mediators in VAT; 2- To analyze the expression and activation of the purinergic pathway in VAT. Results: Samples of VAT were obtained from the greater omentum during endoscopic repair of hernias and during the performance of bariatric surgeries from lean (LD) or obese (OB) patients, respectively. VAT of OB secreted higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines (IL-1β, TNF-αand MCP-1) quantified by Bioplex. ATP released by VAT, measured by Luminometry, correlated positively with patients BMI (p
