Resumen:
In aquatic ecosystems, global change encompasses human-induced variations in the upper layer the water column, where most ó carbon ́iEation takes place. These changes include increments Eposure to solar UV radiation, mean temperature ó suŕace seawater, ocean acidíication and nutrient concentrations. These ́actors are well known to á́ect plankton ecosystems, although not all organisms are equally á́ected. In addition, many times these ́actors interact and the ́inal results are not always additive or synergistic as eEpected. Finally, indirect é́ects (e.g., through trophic interactions) are óten more pronounced than direct ones (e.g., survival or growth), which tend in some cases to mask overall and long-term eEpected ecological shíts in plankton communities. We review the main contributions in this ́ield ́rom the Atlantic coast ó South America and discussin a ́inal section what have we learned and what is still unknown as global changes seems to be here to stay.
