Resumen:
Reproduction is a critical process for the survival and variability of complex plants. Among theflowering time genes, the SEPALLATA (SEP) genes have been found to be associated with theregulation of various aspects of inflorescence development in different plant species, such asbract identity, peduncle abscission zone, and inflorescence architecture. In grasses, SEPgenes have undergone duplications, leading to the emergence of subclades with functionsexclusive to this plant family. Brachypodium distachyon is the model plant for the Pooideaesubfamily, which includes economically important crops like wheat, oats, and barley, due toits phylogenetic closeness to these species. The present study aims to functionallycharacterize BdPAP2, a B. distachyon SEP gene, which will contribute to the understanding ofthe mechanisms underlying the transition from vegetative to reproductive meristem andinflorescence architecture in the Pooideae subfamily.
