Resumen:
After my participation at the scholar´s day at MOMA in 2014 in advance of the exhibition From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires: Grete Stern and Horacio Coppola (May 17 - October 4, 2015) I was invited in 2015 to give a lecture in the public conference "Perspectives on "From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires: Grete Stern and Horacio Coppola". We were six scholars and artists from Argentina and US taking part in this program. Lifestream and online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bPjFhHr_LU&feature=share This is the abstract of my talk: If we were to focus on the first years of the ?30s decade we wouldfind on Horacio Coppola a young photographer who sees Buenos Aires from adifferent perspective, using fragments and extensive play with geometry in hisphotographs; however, in no lesser degree we would also see a person involvedin promoting Culture, a filmmaker and an incipient film and visual arts critic. In this presentation, I would like to refer to precisely this Coppola, who didnot employ photography as an exclusive medium, but as one of the platforms fromwhich he pondered?and produced?aesthetic forms pertaining to modernity. I aminterested in analyzing specific aspects of his artistic production?and hisfilmmaking in particular?in order to highlight certain positions adopted andaesthetic choices made that tie together different spheres of his work.
