The Management of Wild Resources and the Origin and Spread of Domesticated Plants and Animals

In this presentation, novel data referring to the presence of cultigens such as maize (Zea mays), Cucurbita sp and also wild plants (Prosopis sp and Poaceae) in hunter-gatherer contexts of Argentine Western Pampa is communicated. These were detected from the observation of plant micro- remains (silicaphytoliths and starch grains) in pottery adherences, grinding stones, and dental tartar. This information is integrated with other archaeological and bioanthropological indicators in order to discuss aspects of the dynamics of local populations in the last 1000 years, according to a social interaction model that privileges an east-west vector in large spatial scale.
