Resumen:
Branislava Susnik -a Slovenian anthropologist who since 1952 was in charge of the Ethnographic Museum "Andrés Barbero"– raised a new concept of mestizaje in Paraguay. Until her research, scholars had assumed a nationalistic conception of mestizaje. However, being female, foreign and anthropologist, her research was not taken into account by the national historiography. An example of this fact is the article published by Washington Ashwell in the Yearbook of Paraguay Academy of History (2006) on Irala as the founder of the Paraguayan nationality. This article, after describing the key moments of Susnik’s life, focus on how Susnik has constructed and showed her ideas and on how the Paraguayan intellectual environment has ignored her conclusions.
