Resumen:
Throughout the nineteenth century, military cartographers and institutions responsible for mapping in Spanish America changed their goals and techniques and underwent various organizational changes, particularly during the independence movements that gave birth to the modern Latin American nations from the former Audiencias and Capitanías that had long belonged to the Spanish Empire. However, despite all these changes, military maps and mapping in Spanish America remained focused on border issues both during the colonial period and during the state-formation processes following the revolutions, and later in the century they also carried out the topographic survey project for mapping the post-independence revolutions newborn national territories. Additionally, a considerable military maps and mapping was consecrated to civil and military infrastructure.
