Resumen:
The impact of living in an intact violent or non-violent home at age 14-16 on different measures of emotional and behavior problems four years later was examined in a random sample of 308 Argentinian adolescents (47% males). Those coming from violent homes had higher depression and anxiety four years later than those belonging to non-violent families. Males differed, besides, in global self-esteem and females in antisocial behavior. (MANOVAs Partial Eta Squared 9% for both genders). In Harter Self-Perception Profile for College Students, those belonging to violent homes viewed themselves as less competent than the other group (MANOVA Partial Eta Squared 4%); males in the former group saw themselves as less good-looking, less competent at maintaining close friendships, less strict in issues of morality and having a lower quality relationship with their parents. Females belonging to violent homes perceived themselves as less humorous and more dissatisfied with their parental relationship compared to the other group.
