As a result of cysteine proteinases´ activity, type I collagen
is cleaved into several fragments which are released into
circulation. Some of them, such as the C-terminal telopeptide
of type I collagen (CTX) rearrangement, can be quantified by
specific immunoassay. This motif derived from newly −CTX
form, but with age is susceptible of á synthesized collagen is in
the −CTX. The objective of the study was spontaneous
nonenzymatic isomerization to −CTX levels in 313 healthy
normal subjects. For this purpose, 173 prepuberal children
(70 girls and 103 boys) and 30 adolescents (18 girls and 12 boy
from 11 to 12 years) attending public schools (Vte Lopez, Bs.
As., Argentina) were assessed; 20 premenopausal (37±8 years)
