Resumen:
The aim of this paper is to present a set of engineering solutions for the design of a non-conventional new vertical axis wind turbine. The concepts presented here involve the constructive aspects of variable-geometry oval-trajectory (VGOT) rotors. The key feature of a VGOT machine is that each blade, instead of rotating around a central vertical axis, slides over rails mounted on a wagon. Every one of them contains its own electrical generation system coupled to the wheels and the electricity is collected by a classical third rail system. In our design, we looked for the use of standard railway material as much as possible. Rails, sleepers, supporting wheels, and other mechanical devices are intended to be chosen among the standards. As well as, electrical generators, third-rail electricity-collecting lines, and other electrical devices are intended to be standard too. While, other standard pieces of equipment could be adapted to our purposes. Some other devices should be designed specially, for instance, for the power wheels and its gear systems we propose a twin design based upon a pair of oscillating-lever gearboxes coaxial with the electrical generators.
