Turbulent Flow Simulation by means of KLE Method combined with Large Eddy Simulation

In this work we present the implementation of a "large eddy simulation" model to simulate turbulent flows by means of a "vorticity-velocity" formulation based solver of the fluid dynamic equations, the KLE Method. The basic original formulation of the KLE Method for direct numerical simulation is shown along with the modifications made in order to include the sub-grid scale effect by a Smagorinsky model in the case of a large eddy simulation. We present results of velocity, vorticity and effective viscosity fields from a simulation of turbulent flow around a circular cylinder.
