Resumen:
p { margin-bottom: 0.1in; line-height: 120%; }The inelasticportion of the tunnel current through an individual magnetic atomgrants unique access to read out and change the atom?s spin state, but it also provides a path for spontaneous relaxation anddecoherence. Controlled closure of the inelastic channel would allowfor the latter to be switched off at will, paving the way to coherentspin manipulation in single atoms. In this work we analize differentmagnetic atoms on Cu2N and MgO. We study the coupling ofthese atoms to the surface and the effect of the coupling in the spinmanipulation process. In addition, we demonstrate complete closure ofthe inelastic channels for both spin and orbital transitions due to acontrolled geometric modification of the atom?s environment, usingscanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and we discuss recent experimentson STM-electron spin resonance (STM- ESR) of an individual Fe atom onan MgO surface.
