Resumen:
Bezoars or bezoar stones are a usual pathology in South American camelids. In this work, we analyzed a sample ofbezoars from extant guanacos -Lama guanicoe-. We also compared these materials with structures previouslyassigned to bezoars, recovered from Holocene sites of the Argentine Pampas. Based on the obtained results, weconsider that the morphometry, external and internal features and mineral composition, are useful tools for theidentification of bezoars in the fossil record. This study brings new information on the origin and formation mechanismsof bezoars and provides a frame of reference for its recognition and interpretation in archeological and paleontologicalsites.
