Resumen:
Based on a discussion of Bucciarelli and Drew's proposal on liberal education in engineering, our article makes use of ABET's classic definition of engineering to open up the debate on the place of humanistic knowledge in engineering education. In particular, we are interested in giving a formal definition of the concept of "good judgment" in engineering. Based on this definition, we address the limitations of an education restricted to the exact and natural sciences and emphasize the need to incorporate humanistic knowledge. In this regard, we argue that in order to successfully generate critical capabilities in students, this knowledge must be integrated with traditional disciplinary contents and not be regarded as an add-on.
