Resumen:
The short, anonymous treatise known as De rebus bellicis (DRB) is one of the most original texts to survive from Late Antiquity. After the pioneering edition of E. Thompson (1952), the treatise attracted the attention of many leading scholars of the Late Roman Empire, and a number of important studies on the subject were published in the following decades. However, since the turn of the century, this debate has slowed down without any consensus having been achieved on the most important issues. The book under review is an important and welcomeaddition to the literature on the DRB, and presents a bilingual edition of the text, together with a comprehensive introduction and a detailed commentary. It also includes color illustrations of the drawings in the manuscript known as Parisinus latinus and modern computer reconstructions of the military machines designed by the anonymous author. Philippe F(leury) is a Latinist specializing in the study of Roman technical writers and ancient technology. He is thus well qualified for the task of editing and commenting on the DRB.
