Resumen:
The aim of this study is to achieve a deeper understanding of therepertoire of cognitive resources children can display in the process oflearning numbers. Forty-two children attending Age 4 KindergartenClass or Year-One in Argentina were individually interviewed, based on asemi-structured script requiring them to represent definite andindefinite quantities orally and notationally. Children?s responsesthroughout the interview were categorized according to Scope ofconventional knowledge, Non-conventional responses, Playfulness andProgress. Results of a series of Classification Analyses showed three mainclasses, which capture the tension between using what is known andexploring novelties in order to represent numerical meanings.
