Resumen:
BACKGROUND: Polymorphisms within HLA DP and DQ have been associated with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in Asian, Arabian and Argentinian populations. Due to the high degree of variability of HLA genes, genotyping-based association analysis is necessary to understand the associations between HLA genes and CHB infection. AIM: To determine associations between CHB infection and HLA-DQB1 alleles in Argentina.METHODOLOGY: CHB patients, HBV-resolved individuals and healthy controls were recruited from the metropolitan (MET) and northwestern (NWA) regions of Argentina. Genetic ancestry was compared between both geographical regions and among the three groups of each region. HLA-DQB1 genotyping was compared among the three groups in each region. Chi-square test with Bonferroni correction was used for statistical analyses.RESULTS: 1605 subjects were included in the study. Native American ancestry was less prevalent in MET (29.7%) when compared with NWA (77.5%; P
