For men undergoing TURP, low‐certainty evidence suggests that performing urodynamic studies (cystometry and pressure flow studies) before TURP may lead to 13% of men avoiding surgery (all results on average). Fewer participants were still obstructed at six months post surgery with use of urodynamics than with no urodynamics (98 vs 179 per 1000 men), but there was little to no difference between groups in the increase in urine flow rate or in the decrease in change in International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS). Studies failed to report on continuing symptoms of voiding dysfunction, urinary tract infection, participant satisfaction/quality of life, need for repeat or alternative treatment within one year, or adverse effects.
