Resumen:
The spaciotemporal variation of three organotin compounds (OTCs) was assessed in the surface water of the Bahía Blanca estuary (Argentina). Tributyltin (TBT) and its breakdown products, dibutyltin (DBT) and monobutyltin (MBT) were investigated in six sampling sites with different anthropogenic impact and determined by GC-MS after L/L extraction with hexane. Total butyltins (TBts = TBT+ DBT+ MBT) levels ranged from 311 ± 10 to 867 ± 34 ng Sn.L-1. The occurrence of TBT throughout the whole period of study indicated a continuous input of this compound to the estuary. Further, average TBT levels exceeded the international guidelines such as the Ecotoxicological Assessment Criteria (0.62 ng Sn L-1), posing that biological effects could be highly probable to occur for the most sensitive estuarine species. OTC levels appeared not to correlate with physiochemical parameters such as temperature, pH, turbidity, salinity, particulate organic matter (Spearman coefficient, p>0.05)
