Resumen:
Geological-metamorphic characterization of the basement of the northwestern end of the Cordillera del Viento, Neuquén.The aim of this contribution is to describe the metamorphic and structural evolution of the low-grade basement rocks of the Guaraco Norte Formation in Chacay creek, at the northern portion of the Cordillera del Viento, Neuquén. Pre-Upper Devonian sedimentary protoliths of the Guaraco Norte Formation underwent regional metamorphism (M1) under greenschist facies conditions and F1 decametric folds with western tectonic transport. Two granitoid plutons intrude the already deformed and regionally metamorphosed rocks, generating hornfels and migmatites by contact metamorphism. Finally, the basement is affected by E-oriented and W-vergent high-angle reverse faults, which are associated to duplexes.
