Resumen:
In this paper, a new glucose control strategy for patientswith type 1 diabetes based on the dynamic simulation of an intervalmodel is presented. Particularly, a safety scheme based on an intervalinsulin-on-board estimation model for articial pancreas systems is designed, which includes a combination of soft and hard insulin-on-boardconstraints that can be implemented as part of an automatic controlstrategy. This control strategy is tested in 10 virtual type 1 diabetes patientsfrom the UVa/Padova simulator approved by the Food and DrugAdministration agency of the United States, showing a satisfactory performancein comparison to the same control system without the safetyscheme. The proposed approach avoids episodes of mild and severe hypoglycemiaunder demanding assessment scenarios.
