Resumen:
The anaerobic digestion is an important bioprocessfor the benefits it produces in energy and ambient. Yet, itsmonitoring and control are still hampered by the cost and lackof proper sensors. One way to mitigate this problem is theuse of observers to estimate the desired variables. Prior to theobserver design, an observability analysis can be done in orderto determine which variables can be estimated from a givensensor configuration. Being the anaerobic digestion a highly nonlinear process, the usual observability analysis methods involvevery complex calculations. However, analysis methods with lesscalculation complexity have been proposed in recent works, which also allow considering unknown inputs. Roughly, thesemethods consist in the dynamical study of the indistinguishabletrajectories of the system, if they exist. Particularly, in this work, those methods are applied to the detectability and observabilityanalysis of the anaerobic digestion process considering manysensor configurations. The analysis aims to obtaining a tool tofacilitate the selection of sensors, to maximize the informationthat can be obtained from the process.
