Resumen:
The Pilcomayo river basin is shared by three countries (Argentina,Bolivia and Paraguay) and means a huge challenge in various aspects suchas social (more than 20 ethnic groups living in the basin), economic(demand is high and is located away of the major economic centers ineach country), environmental (in the upper basin mining and oil‐gasactivities are intense for centuries, in the middle basin the river has a highmobility and sediment transport of the highest in the region and in thelower basin its singular nature of interrupt‐stream leads to variouswetlands with high biodiversity). A compilation and analysis of majorhydraulic problems encountered in the basin are presented in this2nd edition of this book. These are the high mobility of the channel, the possibility ofchanging course during floods and high difficulties in the distribution ofwater and sediment between Argentina and Paraguay.
