Resumen:
Snow is an essential parameter of the cryosphereand plays a fundamental role in the hydrological cycle, therefore monitoring of the snow is of great importancespecially with regard to irrigation, hydroelectric powergeneration, and for human consumption and production.Satellite Remote Sensing, with both optical and SyntheticAperture Radars (SAR) instruments, can provide distributedobservations of snow cover over extended and inaccessibleareas such as the Andes. In this study through optical dataLandsat 8, snow cover area was obtained, then applying thechange detection method developed by Nagler y Rott (2000),Sentinel 1 data was used for wetsnow classification. With thecartography and with data from the gauging stations, hidrosnowyseasonal dynamics was analyzed. The study was carriedout in The Andes in the province of Mendoza over the RíoMendoza and Río Tunuyán basins. The results obtained showthe relevance of the satellite sensors to determine the snowcover and to estimate with SAR images, the wet snow, whichrepresents a flow input to the rivers and reservoirs locateddownstream.
