Resumen:
Renewable energy represents an increasing contribution to the matrix of electric power ge-neration. Large horizontal axis wind turbines have gained acceptance worldwide. In this context, robustand reliable computational tools are necessary to study the dynamic behavior of these structures, to ac-company this expansion process and to support technological progress and engineering design. A hybridstructural model of a large horizontal axis wind turbine is presented. The model is conceived as a setof rigid and flexible bodies. The flexible tower is modeled as a Euler-Bernoulli beam with displacementfields in the direction of principal axis of inertia of the transverse section of the beam. On the other hand, the nacelle-rotor assembly is modeled as a set of rigid bodies. A set of assumed modes are used forthe kinematic description of the beam in flexure. Natural frequencies of the system are computed andcompared with results published in the literature with no angular velocity in its axis of rotation.
