The deathof dopaminergic neurons triggered by oxidative stress andmitochondrial dysfunction is one pathognomonic characteristicof PD patients.Neuronal exposure to 6-OH dopamine (6-OHDA), a hydroxylatedanalogue of dopamine, constitutes a very usefulstrategy for studying the molecular events associated withneuronal death in PD.
