Resumen:
The use of nanocellulose as reinforcement of hydrophobic biodegradable matrices such as polylactic acid requires the modulation of cellulose?s polarity. In recents contributions we reported on the use of a simple solvent free organocatalytic route for the chemical modification of bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) using acetic anhydride as acylant and naturally occurring α-hydroxycarboxylic acids as catalysts (e.g. L-tartaric acid, lactic acid and citric acid) [1]. In the current contribution according to the results previously obtained, we analyze the effect of reaction time and catalyst load on the degree of substitution (DS) achieved in the acetylation of BNC catalyzed by citric acid.
