Resumen:
The effect of the filler on the tensile behavior of Polypropylene based composites reinforced with quartz particles of different sizes was investigated. The filler dispersion was analyzed by the particle size distribution and the multifractal theory. The mechanical behavior of the composite materials was characterized on tensile tests and the fracture surfaces were analyzed considering the multifractal theory applied on SEM micrographs.Reduced toughness was achieved on the tensile tests for increased particle contents, independently of the filler size considered. An improved tendency to agglomerate was confirmed with increased content and reduced filler size related to a detrimental effect on the mechanical performance of the composite. The fracture surfaces were described by the multifractal spectra and related to the tensile tests. Moreover, based on the large fracture morphology differences, the PP matrix and the composites could not directly compared.
