Transformations in tobacco production in Argentina as of changes in the world cigarette market

This paper aims to analyze the social and economicchanges that arose in tobacco production in the Argentine Republic throughoutthe 20th century as a result of the changes in the world cigarette market.Tobacco is a farming from the American continent thatuntil before its entrance to Europe was used by many American Cultures forceremonial purposes. However, as a result of the development of the cigaretteindustry, tobacco became a commercial product, and the geographical spaceswhere the farming is development had important transformations as it enteredthe orbit of world capitalism. As a consequence, in those places have placeprocesses of reorganization in the cropping techniques, as well as changes inthe forms of social organization.In the case of Argentina,these processes became more prominent in the twentieth century when themajority of transnational cigarette companies took control of the productionchain.
