Altered expression of Estrogen Receptors α and β in bovine ovarian follicular persistence

These results suggest differential expression of estrogen receptor proteins in persistent follicles of follicles groups compared with follicles of the control group. On day 5 an incipient decrease is observed and could be associated with an alteration in the proliferation, apoptosis and steroidogenesis observed in this model. Those changes in the expression of estrogen receptors, mainly ERα, can lead to an altered response of steroid hormones, and thus contribute to the pathogenesis of ovarian alterations such as follicular persistence and cystic ovarian disease.
