Resumen:
The idea that motivates this talk is to show in chronological form the improvements that we have introduced on the PFEM numerical method, since we have joined its development team.In particular, the idea is to show how the need to compare with those codes that today the CFD community chooses for their use to be more competitive. We will begin with an introduction where we will briefly summarize the advances made in the PFEM methodology that resulted in the version we call PFEM-2 or second generation PFEM where the focus was on achieving greater stability without sacrificing to a large extent the precision of the method.A posteriori and due to that idea of making the method available to the CFD user community, who mostly work in finite volumes we have extended the technique to use this type of discretization. We will show some preliminary examples of the method called PFVM and where some weaknesses of the method began to be seen that required a more thorough analysis. This motivated the decision to take the method to second order, a fact that we did not have even with PFEM-2 to be able to be competitive with the most popular Eulerian methods used in our community. Achieving a second order is not simply working with second-order temporal space schemes, it is much more than that. Thus, some new developments emerged in the projection and interpolation operators as well as in the operator division. We will show some results that enable us to think that we are getting closer to being able to make our tool available to the community. Finally, we will present the advances in some topics that we are interested in addressing with the technique and the main conclusions of what has been done so far.
