A simple method for obtaining intrinsic kinetic parameters of photocatalytic, first-order reactions is presented. The degradation of a water pollutant, the pharmaceutical drug clofibric acid (CA), was evaluated in a photocatalytic microreactor under different flow rates, TiO2 film thicknesses, and UV irradiation fluxes. A simple analytical model was developed to calculate the first-order kinetic constant from experimental data, under conditions of negligible mass transfer limitations. The predictions of the model, as well as its range of validity, were further verified against rigorous numerical calculations of the full problem (advection, diffusion and reaction).
