La verdadera identidad de Bothriurus vittatus (Guérin Méneville, [1838]) (Scorpiones, Bothriuridae)

Bothriurus vittatus (Guérin Méneville), a very controversial and poorly known species is redescribed. All the citations to this species are discussed. We describe and ilustrate the external morphology, the hemispermatophore and its pigmentation patterns, in the both sex. New records for this species are also reported, and the synonymy of Bothriurus alienicola Mello-Leitão and B. wilhelmi Cekalovic is established. Based on several characters (hemispermatophore, metasomal ventral carinae, etc.) we propose a new 'species group' in the Bothriurus genus: the vittatus group, with a distribution restricted to center-south of Chile.
