A new Bothriurus from Brazil (Scorpiones, Bothriuridae)

A new species of scorpion from southern Brazil, Bothriurus pora, is described. The species presents unique characters in the genus concerning the hemispermatophore morphology, with a highly developed and extremely complex capsular region. Both the external morphology and the general shape of the sperm packages show a close relationship with the Bothriurus bonariensis species group. A detailed description of the only available male of the new species is provided, and its probable phylogenetic and biogeographical relationships with the bonariensis group are discussed.
