Occurrence of arsenic, vanadium and uranium in powdered milk from Argentina

In Latin America theinformation related to trace elements content in milk and milk products is scarce. In this region, arsenic naturally occurring in groundwater, it can reach production areas. We studied the correlation of As with other traceelements, like vanadium and uranium, and also calculated the daily As intakerate. The mean Asconcentration in all samples was 20 ± 11 µg/kg. A correlation betweenAs and V (r: 0.74, p<0.05) and also between As and U (r: 0.70, p<0.05) wasfound in all samples. The daily intake rate was below the maximum limit of intake (0.015 mg/kg bw or 2.1 µg/kg/d). This work shows the importance of the characterization of traceelements in milk and its products.
