Resumen:
The aim of this study was to analize a morphology and morphometry of lapillus otoliths of the catfishes Cathorops spixii and Genidens genidens the coast of Paraná, Brazil. Were used 147 of the C. spixii and 96 G. genidens in different size class of the fishes. The otoliths of the both species were characterize with entire margins, differing shape of the otolith is oblong for C. spixii and oval for G. genidens. The morphological differentiation between the two species is in the anterior region: rounded to C. spixii and pointed to G. genidens. The test t between the measures of the otolith species:  length of otolith (t value = -2.88; p = 0.0042), height of otolith (t value = -6.87; p < 0.000001), anterior angle (t value= 9.84; p = 0.000001) and posterior angle (t value =0.41; p = 0.68). The results show that the lapillus otoliths of C. spixii and G. genidens differ in the shape of the region anterior and the angle anterior facilitating the differentiation between the two species in studies of trophic ecology of ichthyophagous.
