Resumen:
The Pb-Sn alloys were directionally solidified in order to obtain bi-crystals and then the columnar-to-equiaxed transition (CET) position was determined on the vertical section of the bar. The local temperatures were measured and the temperature gradients, cooling velocities and liquid and solid interphase velocities were calculated. Comparing the position of the structure transition and the thermal conditions it was found that the transitions occur when the temperature gradient in the melt at the liquidus temperature was ?3.76 °C/cm to ? 1.44 °C/cm and the interphase velocity was close to 0.1 cm/s. Is was observed liquid supercoolings of about 3 °C for the nucleation and growth of the equiaxed grains in front of the columnar growth.
