This paper presents the procedure carried out forbuilding a model of a synchronous generator moved by aninternal combustion engine, usually referred as genset. Theobjective was to analyse the stalling behaviour of the genset,when they are suddenly loaded by loads that are between theirnominal capacity. The model was done in MATLAB/Simulinkplatform and tested for several load cases, which involveddifferent power factors. The results showed the stallingphenomena for loads that are between the nominal capacity ofthe genset, and a triggering feature of the reactive load forcausing stalling was observed. This last aspect is part of the maincontributions of the work done.
