Resumen:
Primates may bark-strip trees in forest plantations, producing large economic losses. We conducted a literature review on the effectiveness of methods used to mitigate the damage produced by primates to trees in plantations. Three primates, including the black capuchin monkey (Sapajus nigritus), concentrate most of the damage around the world, with pines (Pinus sp.) being the most frequently attacked trees in plantations. Actions to mitigate this problem, including the massive killing of monkeys, had proven ineffective in the long term. Without an understanding of why monkeys bark-strip trees in plantations it will not be possible to mitigate damage.
