Resumen:
In a community that made the printed word the privileged ground for cultural reproduction and political confrontation, the study of books becomes an especially productive entry for understanding its history. This presentation will adress the historical modalities of integration of Buenos Aires in the global geography of Jewish books, and the ways in which this participation shaped the Argentine Jewish culture between late 1910s and mid 1970s. Combining different levels and strategies of analysis, the presentation will be organized on the basis of the distinction between the two linguistic universes that defined a substantial part of Jewish social and cultural life in Argentina, Yiddish and Spanish, and two very different historical periods set by the turning point that meant the Holocaust and the creation of the State of Israel.
